"Geological and Palaeontological Heritage: Retrieval, Conservation, Management and Display."

Introduction

The postgraduate course of Museum Studies of the University of Athens in collaboration with the Technological Institute of Athens organizes an intensive course on a range of subjects related to Geological and Palaeontological Heritage and Monuments. The course is aimed at providing an overall outlook of Geological Heritage in an interdisciplinary manner.

Location

Vrisa Lesvos Island, Greece.

The location of Lesvos island was selected due to the rich paleontological and geological heritage which is directly involved with the topic of the summer school. So, it will be possible for the participants, to examine in situ the Paleontological and Geological heritage of Greece. Lesvos is the third largest Greek island, located at the North East Aegean Sea and has a long history that goes back more than 3000 years. The summer school will be held in the village of Vrissa in Lesvos . Vrissa is a charming village, located 45 km from Mytilini, the capital of the island. Vrissa has many places of interest for the visitors to see.

Participation

Application right is granted to those with a level of proficiency in the domain of geological heritage or in a broadly defined field of conservation, museum practice and collections management. Early applications of interest are to be submitted by the 28 th of February 2006. The application can be downloaded from here

The Organising Committee will start selecting the participants of the Summer School, by the 31 st of March 2006 .

Professor M. D. Dermitzakis, Vice - Rector of Financial Planning and Development. Professor of the Faculty of Geology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens .

 

Vice- Tutor:

Professor G. Panagiaris, Head of the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens .

 

 

 

 

Fees

Tuition, educational material, one light meal per day, two coffee breaks per day, transportation from Vatera to Vrisa, an excursion and a banquet.

Participants from the New Independent States of Former Soviet Union, the Balkans (excluded Greece ) and Africa will be excluded from the delegate fees.

Students: 400 euros Others: 600 euros (early fee)
